David Dobrik has raised some cash to get his Dispo startup off the ground.
Yesterday, the social network co-founder and TV personality announced a $4m seed round led by the co-founder of Reddit, Alexis Ohanian’s Seven Seven Six – a brand new firm of his. Ohanian, who recently resigned from the Reddit board in June, told The Wall Street Journal that the goal of Seven Seven Six is to invest in businesses looking to make a more significant impact on the world.
“I always say that when I invest in a company, I’m investing in a founder and an idea, and Dispo is no exception. I’m thrilled to work alongside David, Natalie, Daniel, and the rest of the Dispo’s team in pursuit of this shared goal. We couldn’t have invented a better first investment for Seven Seven Six, “said Alexis Ohanian.
In a release, Dispo – which was previously called David’s Disposable – said the funds would be used to expand its scope by creating a social network whose mission is to restore joy and authenticity to the social space. The rebrand will include a new look and feel and several new features that will enhance the experience for the growing Dispo Community. One of these new features will enable users to pool their photos together for a shared viewing experience.
Other participating investors in Dispo’s seed round include Unshackled Ventures, Shrug Capital, Weekend Fund, members of the Vlog Squad, CEO Wayne Ting, Knowable CEO Warren Shaeffer, and a host of others.
The elated Dispo co-founder took to Instagram and said:
“We just raised 4 million dollars for David’s Disposable!!!!! Hahahahaha WHAT!!”
Dispo marks just one of many entrepreneurial notches that Dobrik has in his belt, including a fragrance line called David’s Perfume and a rumored pizza business called Doughbrik’s Pizza. He also hosts a podcast Views, as well as the Discovery TV series: Dodgeball Thunderdome.
